I've always been fascinated by the Monomanes series by Gericault, ever since I saw this one on the cover of a book. It is some kind of a clinical diagnostic of madness that might have been comissioned by Doctors of La Salpetriere in order to help psychiatric study. So I decided to do a series of portraits that would be inspired by this sober depiction of madness, adding to it something more "monstrous", more talkative, inspired by the way Jerome Bosch painted people of his generation. I read somewhere that breathing Nitrous Oxyde (N20), known as "laughing gas" disconnects your brain for like 1/10 seconds or something like that, and I thought that this very particular moment would be the perfect instant to capture with photography, as Gericault did with mad psychiatric patients. The LOL part was fun to study too, as the subjects were almost knocked out and no longer aware of the camera, it gave perfect natural expressions (the kind of drunk decontraction that every 'nightreporter' in the world has been looking for his whole life like the Holy Graal) ^^
I just started a new blog with my friend Morgan. It is inspiration, pictures, movies, poetry and whatever we find. It's here.I might post some random pictures/drawings of mine there too.
